The Art Gallery of New South Wales
The Art Gallery of New South
Wales is the premium art location within Sydney, boasting a collection that
spans centuries of art sourced from a multitude of artists and countries,
across numerous forms. Its collection also contains an immense display of Australian
artwork. Despite the gallery’s worth being estimated at approximately AU$1
billion, entry to the gallery is free, with most of the collection being
substantiated by government funding and private donations, many of which range
into the tens of millions of dollars, however, some major temporary exhibits do
require paid tickets. The museum regularly runs tours of the gallery, as well
as its specific collections. These are free of charge and often run by
volunteers who maintain a passion in their respective subjects.
The art gallery is open from
10am-5pm Thursday through Tuesday, whilst the gallery is open from 10am-10pm on
Wednesday for Art After Hours. The gallery is also located on the border of the
Royal Botanic Gardens.
