The Museum of Contemporary Art
The Museum of Contemporary Art is
located in the heart of Sydney, nestled below the Harbour Bridge and opposite
the Opera House. The museum features a large permanent collection of Aboriginal
Art, as well as numerous temporary exhibitions, many of which are free to
access. The Museum’s current feature exhibition is entitled “The National - New
Australian Art”, and features a variety of contemporary art by Australian
artists, with a heavy emphasis upon the modern interpretations of traditional
Aboriginal art.
The museum also contains a café
on its upper level, featuring beautiful views across Sydney Harbour, as well as
excellent seasonal menus that contain a variety of local sourced ingredients.
The museum is open from 10am-5pm
Thursday through Tuesday, with extended hours until 9pm on Wednesday nights,
when the special MCA Nights events often occur, featuring
guest speakers, artists and performances. Entry is free to most exhibitions, although
on site consultation for special events may be required under some
circumstances.
